XACCTusage HONORED BY INTERNET TELEPHONY MAGAZINE AS 1999 PRODUCT OF THE YEAR
SANTA CLARA, Calif., December 7, 1999

XACCT Technologies, Inc., the leader in the emerging IP mediation market, announced today that Internet Telephony magazine has selected XACCTusage(tm) as the "Product of the Year " in the Billing category in its November '99 issue.

"We are honored that Internet Telephony singled out our pioneering IP mediation solution," said Anil Uberoi, vice president of marketing for XACCT Technologies. "This further validates the choice of more than 45 billing solutions providers, worldwide, who currently integrate XACCTusage into their offerings, thus enabling their customers to develop usage-based pricing models for IP services."

"The Internet Telephony Product of the Year award allows us to honor exemplary products across a broad span of the marketplace," said TMC president and group publisher Rich Tehrani. "As the industry matures, we're finding more than just products and services on the market -- entire solutions are being offered. We are pleased to honor the Product of the Year winners today, as they lay the groundwork for the next generation of global telecommunications."

Business Infrastructure for Next-Generation Public Networks XACCT Technologies develops a new class of business infrastructure software that enables Network Service Providers (NSPs) to design and execute flexible pricing models for differentiated value-added services and applications. The company's flagship product, XACCTusage, provides a single point of interface between Business/Operations Support Systems (OSS/BSS) and the network infrastructure for usage data collection, automated user-account provisioning, and pre-payment processing. Its multi-source, multi-layer architecture and business policy-based record synthesis capabilities enable XACCTusage to extract comprehensive usage information from a multitude of network devices and from all layers of the network-from the physical layer to the application layer-in real-time. XACCTusage then synthesizes this information to produce meaningful billing records called XACCT Detail Records (XDR) that are analogous to the Call Detail Records (CDRs) generated by telephone switches. Billing applications use the XDRs to create service-specific, usage-based bills for a wide variety of IP-based services and applications such as Voice over IP (VoIP), video, virtual private networks (VPNs), and more.

XACCTusage scales to meet the demands of the largest NSPs, including telecommunications carriers, Competitive Local Exchange Carriers (CLECs), cable operators, and Internet Service Providers (ISPs). The solution empowers service providers to 'right price' current and future value-added services, generate IP 'phone bills' for customers, and reduce the time it takes to bring new differentiated services to market.
