Breakthrough DBS Solution to Serve Millions of MDU Subscribers Is Announced by Foxcom

VIENNA, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 23, 1997--Foxcom Inc., a fiber- optic-equipment manufacturer, has announced the release of its new SDTV (Satellite Distribution Television) system.

This innovative technology provides the satellite-communications industry with its first complete and cost-effective MDU (Multiple Dwelling Unit) system. SDTV is a new hybrid fiber-optic/coax distribution system that delivers DBS, local off-air TV, cable or SMATV, and security systems to any number of viewers in large MDUs. This single-wire low-maintenance system is a bridge to the future with benefits for private cable operators and property owners.

SDTV makes it economically feasible to deliver all the analog and digital television and information services that subscribers demand in today's competitive marketplace. The SDTV fiber backbone can be overlaid on the existing coaxial infrastructure, minimizing costs and providing delivery of the market's first ultrabroadband ``satellite-ready'' apartment. Said Mor Allon, vice president of business development for Foxcom: ``We are proud to be the pioneers of this innovative technology and excited about the significant commercial potentialit offers to vendors servicing MDU residents. SDTV is the only system of its kind and has attracted significant interest within the MDU marketplace. ``We are confident that this revolutionary solution for distributing L-Band signals in MDUs will continue to enjoy a warm reception from the private cable community.''

The SDTV system is now available, with production quantities expected early in the fourth quarter of 1997. In order to distribute SDTV in the United States, Foxcom has formed a strategic alliance with Heifner Communications Inc. Heifner Communications is a leading distributor of satellite-delivered television programming to the private cable industry. Heifner Communications will distribute the SDTV system through its national referral network of satellite professionals. Foxcom officials will be available at the Heifner Communications booth, No. 2130, during SBCA's Nashville Show, July 24-26.

Foxcom designs, manufactures and markets broadband RF communication solutions serving the satellite and wireless communications industries. Pioneering new fiber-optic technologies, Foxcom produces high-performance yet cost-effective system solutions enabling new applications.
