Vodafone Ireland Selects XACCT's N2B Platform To Consolidate Voice and Data Mediation for Pre-paid and Post-paid Subscribers

DUBLIN, Ireland & SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 15, 2003--

Single Convergent Platform Enables Ireland's Largest Mobile Operator to Shorten Time-to-market for New Services and Reduce Costs

XACCT Technologies, a leading provider of network data management platform for global communications service providers, today announced that Vodafone Ireland, Ireland's leading mobile operator with over a 55% market share and part of the Vodafone Group plc (NYSE:VOD), has started deploying XACCT's Network-to-Business (N2B(TM)) platform across its GPRS and 3G network as part of its strategy to consolidate billing for data & voice services, for pre-paid & post-paid subscribers. The convergent, multi-service mediation capabilities of XACCT's platform enable Vodafone Ireland to reduce costs associated with maintaining multiple point-solutions. XACCT's N2B enables Vodafone to offer differentiated pricing plans for its popular Vodafone live!(TM) service and voice and data services to its pre-paid and post-paid subscribers, quickly and cost-effectively.

Vodafone has been a consistent innovator in the Irish market. It was the first mobile operator to launch a commercial Picture Messaging Service (MMS) as well as WAP services in Ireland and was also the first in Europe to introduce prepaid WAP services. Its High Speed Data (HSD) offering, the only one in Ireland, is complemented by Ireland's first GPRS network, which was launched in January 2002. Vodafone Ireland enjoys one of the highest data service adoption rates by customers among the Vodafone network of companies.

"Time-to-market and flexibility are key success factors for this project" said Paul Congdon, Vodafone Ireland's Integrated Billing Manager. "We conducted an extensive evaluation and testing process with some of the top mediation companies in order to choose the platform that could support our marketing plans now and in the future. XACCT not only impressed us during the evaluation process, but has continued to meet all of its commitments across the board. It is clear that we made the right decision in choosing XACCT as our long-term partner for this effort."

Carriers typically spend significant amounts of money and time integrating the mediation systems to various network elements and the downstream back-office applications, often resulting in service roll-out delays. With off-the-shelf availability of interface and processing modules from XACCT, Vodafone Ireland was able to integrate the XACCT platform into Vodafone Ireland's network and billing environments, quickly and cost effectively.

"We are proud to have secured Vodafone Ireland's confidence not only during an extremely rigorous evaluation process but also during the successful deployment of the first phase of the project" said Eric Gries, President and CEO of XACCT Technologies. "We are committed to the long-term partnership between the two companies and will continue to work closely with Vodafone to ensure that they realize the maximum return on their investment in XACCT."

About Universal Data Management

XACCT's N2B Universal Network Data Management(TM) solutions extend beyond the boundaries of traditional mediation solutions found in the marketplace. Its highly distributed modular architecture is designed for performance, functionality, expandability, flexibility and revenue assurance. This allows carriers to quickly implement changes in networks as well as business logic in response to ever-changing competitive landscapes and operational budgets. The results: shorter time to market for new services and significantly lower total cost of ownership (TCO) compared to custom-developed, one-off solutions of the past.

Concurrent Mediation

The XACCT N2B platform is the only solution that provides concurrent mediation capabilities. Concurrent processing allows service providers to manage file-based processing requirements as well as real-time flow-based processing, simultaneously, on a single platform. Both processing methods use the same configuration concepts, interface options and behaviors to execute mediation operations for packet-switched and circuit-switched network data. It allows operators a way to handle both circuit-switched and packet-switched mediation requirements, while leveraging existing staff, skill-sets, and systems. This unique capability provides operators with a low-risk technology bridge to move from legacy file-based solutions to next-generation real-time processing
